McGill, the RSEQ conference champion, advances to Saturday’s second national semifinal match against Trinity Western, the Canada West champs from Langley, B.C., at 9 p.m. (EDT)
After a slow start, a young McGill squad found its rhythm early in the second, battling for a two-point margin of victory before powering past the Varsity Blues to advance.
Robitaille hit an impressive 39.1 per cent success rate en route to 19 kills with just one error. She adding seven digs, six blocks and a pair of aces. Iannotti was successful on 37,2 per cent of her attempts and racked up 19 kills, while adding six blocks and five digs.
Julia Murmann led Toronto’s attack Friday, finishing with 21 kills to go with 14 digs, while teammate Hayley Goodwin also recorded a double-double with 47 assists and 13 digs.
After hitting just 11.5 per cent efficiency in the opening set, the Martlets finished the match hitting 29.7 overall, while limiting the Varsity Blues to just a 23.3 clip.
Toronto will now face off against host Calgary in a consolation round semifinal, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday.
