U OF T MEN’S VOLLEYBALL DELIVER IN HOME OPENER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team defeated the visiting Western Mustangs 3-1 on Friday (Nov. 10) evening in their home opener at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.

Set scores in the match were 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22.

In the home opener, the Blues showcased exceptional swinging strength with the trio of Jack Li, Jayden Talsma, and Hunter Arulpragasam contributing 42 of the 56 total kills in the win. The Mustangs rivaled the Blues at the net with their prominent blocking ability tallying 14.5 total blocks, but Toronto overcame the defensive wall through the shared offence. 

Leading Toronto on the night was third-year outside hitter Arulpragasm who recorded a game-high 18 points, 16 of them being kills. Li and Talsma each added 14 points, with Li also contributing defensively with 11 digs.

Guiding Toronto’s offence was the setting duo of Michael Hickey and Daivs Young. Hickey finished the night with 23 total assists, while Young was not too far off with 20. Meanwhile, second-year libero Kenneth Mann did his job on the floor adding a team-high 16 digs, defensively. 

The Mustangs were led by Jonah Millard who recorded 14 kills, two solo blocks and one block assist for 16.5 total points.. 

Toronto and Western will return to the Goldring Centre court tomorrow (Nov. 11) afternoon at 4 p.m. Tickets for the Blues home game can be purchased at varsityblues.ca/tickets, while all the action can also be caught online via oua.tv
