WINNIPEG – The U SPORTS No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (6-0) earned a weekend sweep and sent the Winnipeg Wesmen (1-5) to its fifth straight defeat with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) Canada West conference win Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
The Thunderbirds hit a sterling .379 for the match while holding Winnipeg to .068. UBC hit .448 in the first and .464 in the second set, winning handily despite giving away 20 points through service errors.
Grace Vallis and Christine Kolbuck had five kills to lead the Wesmen, while Brooke Duncalfe posted a match-high eight digs.
Akash Grewal and Claire Cossarini led the T-Birds with 12 kills with Grewal adding a team-high seven digs.
The undefeated T-Birds come home for a well-deserved week off before hosting the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack for a back to back set on November 17th and 18th at War Memorial Gym. Tickets for both games can be found here. Stream all UBC conference games on Canada West TV.
