The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues battled back after losing the first two sets to win the next three and secured a 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 16-14) win over the Dalhousie Tigers in AUS women’s volleyball actionon Saturday afternoon at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium on the Moncton campus.
Moncton got out to an early 5-0 lead in the first set but the Tigers battled back going on an 8-point run to take the lead 19-9 late in the set thanks to great service from Talia Vydykhan and kills from Lucy Glen-Carter. The Aigles Bleues caught up to hold the Tigers to a 2 point lead, but ultimately gave the Tigers the 25-22 first set win off of two errors.
The second set started off more evenly matched, until halfway through the Tigers went on a 10-2 point run. The Tigers would go on to win the set 25-19 and go up 2-0 in the game.
Early in the third set, Moncton’s Ivana Urquhart-Mladi went on a seven-serve run, helping the Aigles Bleues get out to a 15-6 lead. They would win the set 25-16.
A back-and-forth fourth set saw Moncton outlast the Tigers to win 25-21 and force a fifth set which they would go on to win 16-14.
The Aigles Bleues player of the game, Kyana Sivret, had 12 kills and Sara Chiasson added 10 more and 20 digs. Lucy Glenn-Carter had 11 kills for the Tigers and Alessandra Nadalini had 24 digs.
The Aigles Bleues and the Tigers return to the court on Sunday at 2pm for game two of the weekend.
