Football kicks off 2024-25 campaign with Saturday clash against Saskatchewan
The Harvest Bowl will be on the line when the Bisons and Huskies meet on August 31 to kick off the Canada West season. The long-time rivals have faced off a combined five times in the last two seasons, including last year’s home and season opener in Winnipeg, a thriller which was won in the final five minutes by Saskatchewan, 30-27.
Soccer welcomes MacEwan September 21st to begin home schedule
The Herd will open their home schedule in style, facing MacEwan on September 21 in a match between two consistent playoff teams. Three of the last four games between the rivals have been decided by one goal. Manitoba continues their home stand the next day against Alberta.
Women’s hockey begin season at home October 12th, men face Regina for first game at the ‘Flem October 18th
In women’s hockey action, Alberta comes to town October 12 and 13, facing the Bisons in a clash between two post-season veterans. Thrilling finishes between the conference stalwarts are the norm, including two of the team’s last four games at the ‘Flem, both decided by one goal.
The following weekend, men’s hockey welcomes Regina to Wayne Fleming Arena. The two sides combined for ten goals in a series split last year, and the fireworks are sure to continue in 2024-25.
Volleyball opens season October 25th against Thompson Rivers
The friendly confines of Investors Group Athletic Centre have been good to the Herd. Last season, the women and men won a combined 20 games at home, with the women going undefeated. Both squads will face TRU to begin play at home October 25 and 26, riding a combined six-game win streak against the Wolfpack.
Women’s volleyball also host nationals March 14-16. It’ll be the third year in a row that the Herd have advanced to the final eight, including a bronze medal a year ago in Hamilton.
Basketball tips off November 3rd in rare Sunday feature
In the the first of three games against provincial rival Brandon, the Bisons welcome BU to IGAC for a single match on Sunday, Nov. 3 to open the season. The women haven’t lost to Brandon since 2017, while the men are 7-2 against the Bobcats since 2019.
