On Tuesday morning, U SPORTS announced their latest top 10 rankings, naming three Mount Royal teams as top squads in their respective sports.
The Cougars men’s volleyball team moved up one ranking to the sixth spot in the latest U SPORTS top 10. The team earned a weekend split with the Trinity Western Spartans after winning 3-0 on Friday and narrowly falling 3-2 on Saturday. Despite a bye week, MRU’s women’s hockey team moved up one spot to the second overall ranking in the U SPORTS top 10. This is the second time the Cougars have earned the second spot, trailing just behind the Concordia Stingers. Mount Royal, holding a 14-4-0 record and sitting third in the Canada West standings, hit the ice for the first time in 2024 as they visit the Manitoba Bisons this weekend. Mount Royal’s men’s hockey team fell one spot in the latest rankings, earning sixth overall in the country. MRU endured their bye week and did not play any conference games; however, the team defeated the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings 5-4 in an exhibition tilt on Saturday.
