When speaking to Head Coach Melissa Bartlett after the game, she explained that “people who know our team will realize that it was a very different team out there. We’ve had a couple injuries and a couple illnesses that we are dealing with. So, first I want to say that in terms of execution of game plan with some different personnel on the court, I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud of a team because we’ve bought into a vision and really executed it tonight. So, that is really, really fulfilling. We’ve had to step up our serving game and we really worked that in practice this week and I think that showed through as well.” When asked about the conversation after the third set to maintain the energy into the fourth set, Coach Bartlett noted that “it is honestly about momentum and understanding the power of momentum in our sport and talking about how the players both on the court and off the court can contribute to that feeling of momentum because it’s like a force that you have to harness and push forward and it was cool to see that. I mean we were down 17-10 in set four and then won nine points in a row. That’s momentum. That’s the cool thing about volleyball.” Looking ahead to tomorrow, Coach Bartlett explained that “that’s a good team. They were coming in on an eight-game winning streak. So, I think, and they’ve got a lot of depth. So, I would expect that we might see some different athletes from them and definitely we can look at a couple things that we can do and sharpen up a little bit better but it’s important we rest tonight because it’s a quick turnaround for 2:00pm.”
The Western Mustangs will meet with the Waterloo Warriors again tomorrow at 2:00pm in Alumni Hall.
