The Western Mustangs Defeat The Windsor Lancers 3-1 On The Road

The Western Mustangs met with the Windsor Lancers today at 8:30pm in Windsor. After two tough losses to the Brock Badgers on the road last week, the Mustangs dominated in today’s game winning 3-1. 
 
Windsor open the game with a two-point lead. Blake Fenwick gets Western on the board with a kill. Cade Smith equalizes the game with a kill that finds the middle of the court. Another kill for Cade Smith pushes the Mustangs ahead by one. The Lancers work to equalize but a kill from Kendall Homenick and a service ace from Blake Fenwick put the Mustangs ahead again by two. The teams trade points in the middle of the set, with Western maintain a slight lead. Luca Stojanovic substitutes into the game with the Mustangs at a two-point lead. A block from Kendall Homencik puts the Mustangs within six points of the first set win. Blake Fenwick puts the Mustangs five away from the first set win, causing Windsor to call for a timeout. The Mustangs continue to push towards the set win to take a 1-0 lead over the Lancers with a score of 25-18. 
 
Windsor push four points ahead early in the second set. Blake Fenwick puts the Mustangs on the scoreboard. Head Coach Jim Sage calls a timeout when the score reaches 6-1 to Windsor. Coming out of the timeout, Windsor sends a serve long which gives the Mustangs a point. Another kill from Blake Fenwick. Cade Smith adds another point to Westerns score with a kill. This brings the point difference down to three. Windsor maintain a point lead but the Mustangs work to keep the pressure on the Lancers. The Mustangs equalize after Cameron McGregor sends a ball into the Windsor double block which goes out of bounds. A service ace from Kendall Homenick puts the Mustangs ahead for the first time this set. Windsor are able to push ahead again towards the second half of the second set. The Mustangs equalize at 18-18 after Windsor sends a ball out of bounds. Western get ahead and within six points of the set win. A timeout is called. Windsor push ahead again, getting three points away from the set win with Western one point behind. A timeout is called by Western. Despite Windsor calling for a timeout with the Lancers in the lead, Blake Fenwick is unfazed as he goes to serve. Cameron McGregor gets the Mustangs within one point of the set win. The Lancers equalize but a net violation from Windsor puts the Mustangs one ahead again. A line violation from the Lancers secures the second set for the Mustangs with a score of 26-24. 
 
Windsor push three points ahead early in the third set. Western quickly follows in the points. Cameron McGregor equalizes the points at 6-6. Windsor pushes ahead. Josiah Esau tips the ball over the net to bring the Mustangs one behind the Lancers with the score sitting at 11-10. In a fantastic rally that saw both teams work to keep the ball alive, it is Jonah Millard who wins the point for the Mustangs, equalizing the score at 14-14. A double block from Jonah Millard and Cameron McGregor puts the Mustangs ahead in the points again. The teams continue to swap points with this being anyone’s set. The Lancers call for a timeout when the Mustangs push into the lead, coming within six points of the set win. Blake Fenwick gets a service ace coming out of the timeout. 
 
Western take the opening point in the fourth set. Windsor quickly equalize and push ahead by two points. Windsor maintain a point lead towards the middle of the set. Kendall Homenick brings the Mustangs within one point of the Lancers, making the score 9-8. Blake Fenwick sends a ball over the net where it goes off the hands of the Lancers and out of bounds, equalizing the score at 9-9 and giving the ball back to the Mustangs again. The Lancers push ahead again. A few moments later, Western get a series of points to put the Mustangs two points ahead of the Lancers. Windsor then calls for a timeout. The Lancers go on to win the first point coming out of the timeout. The Mustangs come within five points of the set win, looking to close out this set. The Mustangs maintain the point lead into the later part of the fourth set. A ball sent into the triple block by Cameron McGregor goes out of bounds off the Lancers to put the Mustangs within one point of the set win. A further kill from Cameron McGregor secures the set win with a final score of 25-19.
