Silver for Canada at NORCECA beach tournament

October 2, 2023: Canada earned a silver medal at the NORCECA Punta Cana Volleyball Classic in Dominican Republic on Sunday.

In the final match, USA’s Tim Brewster/Kyle Friend won gold for the second consecutive year, after winning the tie-break over Canada’s Jake MacNeil (Georgetown, ON) and Alex Russell (Surrey, BC) 2-1 (21-14, 16-21, 15-11).

The men’s bronze also went to the United States with Hagen Smith/Logan Webber beating Mexico’s Ricardo Galindo/Isaías Aguirre 2-0 (22-20, 21-13).

Canadian pair of Arran Chambers/Liam Kopp beat the Guatemalan duo Andy Blanco/Luis García 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) for fifth position.

On the women’s side, Puerto Rico’s Allanis Navas/María González won the gold medal over Lexy Denaburg/Molly Turner 2-0 (23-21, 21-11) of the United States. The bronze was won by another USA pair, Corine Quiggle/Sarah Murphy.

For fifth position, Canadians Dana Roskic/Calinda Kok defeated Mexicans Esperanza Albarrán/Yeray Vidaurrazaga 2-0 (21-17, 21-18).

The other Canadian duo of Lea Monkhouse/Marie-Alex Belanger finished ninth, beating the Virgin Islands’ Melanie Valenciana/Taylor Buckner 2-0 (21-10, 21-8),
