It was a complete performance for your Badgers women’s volleyball team, as they bested the host Windsor Lancers in three sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-17) on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Badgers saw three players reach double digits in points, with third-year outside hitter Emily Foest leading the game with 19 points off 14 kills, three service aces and two blocks. Madison Chimienti delivered 16 points off 13 kills, two service aces and one block, and Sadie Dick had 11.5 from 11 kills and 0.5 blocks. Veteran setter Sara Rohr had 41 assists, while senior Aleiah Torres led the Badgers’ defence again with 14 digs.
The Windsor Lancers went out to a two-point lead at 9-7, but a 4-0 run from the Badgers, forced Windsor’s first timeout. This didn’t stop the Badgers’ momentum, as Foest nailed a service ace after the break and Dick earned some kills en route to a 16-9 advantage and a second Windsor timeout. The Lancers attempted to make a run, but the Badgers held strong, winning a furious rally at the end off a Dick kill to take the set 25-20.
In the second set, the Lancers stormed out to a lead, forcing a Brock timeout at 6-2. The momentum swung when the Badgers scored five consecutive points off kills from Emma Baruchelli, Chimienti abd Dick. Despite efforts from the home side to make a comeback, the Badgers held strong, using a .467 hitting percentage to cruise to a 25-16 set two victory.
A Chimienti ace capped off an 8-3 start for the Badgers in third set. The Aurora product was back at it from the service line, earning another ace to give the Badgers an 18-13 advantage. Tying their total from the second set, the No. 2 team in the country notched 18 kills in the frame as they defeated the Lancers 25-16 to win the match.
