CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men’s volleyball team (9-5) will host the University of Alberta Golden Bears (13-1) for two games this weekend – the final homestand for the Dinos this season.
Friday’s contest is scheduled to begin approximately at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday’s first serve is set for 5 p.m. Both games will take place inside the Jack Simpson Gym and will be broadcast live on Canada West TV, presented by Co-op.
SENIOR SENDOFF
While the Dinos will still have plenty of matches still to come this season, this weekend will serve as the final home contests for five Calgary players. Hamish Hazelden, Jacob Reid, Parker Siroishka, Tomas Sorra and Taylor Tracey will all be recognized this weekend for their outstanding careers in the Scarlett and Gold.
ALL SYSTEMS GO
The Dinos will look to repeat the success they had the last time they faced off against the Golden Bears back in January. Calgary split the Battle of Alberta weekend at home, handing Alberta their first loss of the season. Calgary took four sets from the Golden Bears in that weekend split, which is significant as Alberta has dropped just six sets during their 13-1 campaign.
HOMECOURT HAVEN
Calgary has spoiled the hometown fans this season, playing some of their best ball in the Jack Simpson Gym. The Dinos are 5-2 at home on the season, including a thrilling five-set win over Mount Royal that was fueled by the loud home crowd. Calgary also took down then-second ranked Alberta inside The Jack earlier this season – the first and only loss for the Golden Bears this season.
