(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS faced a tough challenge on the road Friday night in Halifax, NS, as they took on the Dalhousie Tigers.
The Tigers managed to secure a hard-fought victory in straight sets, with scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 26-24.
The opening set kicked off with the Tigers taking an early lead at 10-5.
The REDS strategically used timeouts to regroup and gradually closed the gap, thanks in part to a stellar service ace by Danielle Krzywonos (Valley, NS), which reduced Dalhousie’s lead to 17-15.
However, it was a powerful spike from Talia Vydykhan (Hammonds Plains, NS) that ultimately secured the set for the Tigers, ending it with a score of 25-20.
The second set proved to be a nail-biter, with both teams engaged in multiple extended rallies that tested their resilience.
UNB spent a significant portion of the set in the lead. Nonetheless, the Tigers staged a late rally, propelled by a strong block from Paris Stewart (Halifax, NS), which allowed them to pull ahead 23-22 and ultimately claim the set 25-23.
The third set was a closely contested battle, with both teams trading points throughout. It was a decisive kill by Annik Boldon (Fredericton, NB) that ultimately secured the victory for the Tigers, with a final score of 26-24.
Lydia Green (Bedford, NS) of UNB made a notable impact with 8 kills, earning her the title of player of the game for the REDS. Talia Vydykhan’s consistent hitting prowess resulted in an impressive 10 kills, earning her player of the game honors.
Both teams are set to return to the court tomorrow at 1:00 pm at the Dalplex for another exciting matchup.
