TORONTO – After a close game and evident improvement in the Rams defence, the men’s volleyball team fell 3-1 against the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night at Goldring Centre. The loss places the team at sixth in the league with two wins and seven losses.
Toronto gave the Rams the first point after an attack error, and the teams went back and forth with the lead up until the Blues got a run in around 12 points, to give them the advantage at the technical timeout. Toronto maintained the lead to win the first set 25-20.

The second set started off even, with strong kills and rowdy cheering from both sides. Early on, Rams Kai Higuchi served right to the back of the court with an ace. The play was quickly followed by firm kills from Nicholas Hudson and Omari Young, and two blocks by Alex King. Finishing the set, the Rams came out on top 25-18.

The Blues forged their way into a decent lead early on in the third, and despite a few commendable kills from the Rams, it just kept growing. At 24-12, a service error closed the set, giving it to Toronto.

The fourth set saw both the Blues working to end the game and the Rams working to keep it going. Longer rallies and a constantly teetering lead kept the excitement growing, as Higuchi, Hudson and King flexed their offensive skills to give the Rams a one-point lead at 21-20. Tied at 24 though, Toronto managed to get back ahead and won the set, and the game, 26-24.

In his first game as a starter, Kai Higuchi led the Rams with 10 kills. Meanwhile, Alex King had his best game at the net, posting seven solo blocks and finishing with a team-high 13.5 total points.
The Rams will face the Blues again Saturday night, and first serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. You can tune in at OUA.tv or purchase tickets online to watch the Rams live on home court. Health and safety protocols will be in place.
