TORONTO – After challenging the Queen’s Gaels in Kingston last week, the Rams men’s volleyball squad will look for their first win of the season at home this Saturday.
The squad, with plenty of first-year student-athletes, will get its first taste of home court advantage as the York Lions come to visit.
Unlike the defending champion Gaels, the Lions split their opening series last week, going 1-1 against the RMC Paladins. Their second game was a dominant win, coming in straight sets. Much of York’s success has come from veteran Andrew Tauhid, who drove down 17 kills in York’s last match.
The Rams will seek to spread out their offensive contribution, with Trent Ketrzynski, Jacob Walker, and Derek Webster all earning double digits in kills over the last weekend. Meanwhile, Alex King has led the way in blocks so far in the new season.
As their lone matchup of the week, the Rams’ contest against York could serve as a bit of a respite for the young squad. It’s their only home match of the calendar year as they go on the road until January 15, 2022. However, it’s their first of three games against divisional opponent York, with a crucial series awaiting the Rams in February.
First serve this Saturday goes at 5:00 p.m. following the women’s volleyball game. Rams fans are able to attend, but require a ticket. Health and safety protocols are in place.
