In their second match against the Windsor Lancer this weekend, Queen’s Women’s Volleyball took another straight set win (25-16, 25-21, 25-20).
Queen’s led Windsor in kills with 40 to the Lancers’ 30. The Gaels closed out the game with a hit percentage of .321.
Queen’s dominated at the net through the first set. Their offense was no match for the Lancers’ defense.
“Our team really focused on our serve pass game which really helped our setter be able to run a really great offense. Every hitter was ready in their lane to go,” Outside Hannah Duchesneau (Arts & Science) remarked.
“I think we were really efficient in our attack, and I think a lot of that come from really strong passing. I think Holly really found her stride this weekend and she did a really good job of running our back court,” Head Coach Shanice Marcelle added.
Libero Holly Biasi (Arts & Science) finished the weekend with a cumulative 24 digs. As a team the Gael’s closed out the weekend with 79 total digs.
In the second, the Lancers worked the Queen’s defense, finding gaps at the net and the back court.
“One thing that they really exploited from us was that they were tipping behind our block and we were having troubles figuring out who’s ball it was,” Marcelle said. “I just had to reiterate to use your eyes to focus on what’s happening and when you see a tip go and get it.”
The Gaels stepped up their defense and took the next two sets for a straight set win.
In the win, Duchesneau amassed 15 points for Queen’s with 14 kills and one service ace. Claire Carter (Business) added another 12.5 from eight kills, three service aces, and two blocks.
The Gaels look to build on their three-game win streak next weekend, taking on the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, Nov. 15, at 6pm, and Saturday, Nov. 16, at 6pm. Tickets are available on the Queen’s ticket website and are free for students.
