In their first road game of the season, Queen’s Women’s Volleyball took on the Brock Badgers. The Gaels dropped the tight contest 3-2 (24-26, 27-25, 21-25, 25-23, 16-18).
Despite the loss, Queen’s led Brock from the service line and on defense at the net. The Gaels nabbed 10 service aces and 11 blocks, with Claire Carter (School of Business) securing five service aces and Christine Abu (Arts & Science) nabbing seven blocks.
The Gaels trailed through the beginning of the first set as Brock built up a point differential. After a well called time out, Queen’s turned up the heat and brought the Badgers to a 23-23. Despite finding their stride, the Gaels failed to close out the set.
Through the second, the Gaels improved their offense and secured the set 27-25, but were unable to following it up, dropping the third set to the Badgers.
The fourth set was a marathon, with long rallies as the Gaels fought to take another set. With two back-to-back blocks from Abu and Aimee Lemire (Faculty of Education), Queen’s secured the win and forced the Badgers to a fifth set.
A nail-biting fifth set saw Brock secure their victory.
In the loss, Carter led in points for Queen’s with 21.5 and 15 kills. Hannah Duchesneau (Arts & Science) followed Carter with 17.5 points and 16 kills.
The Gaels continue their weekend double-header in St. Catharines on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 4pm. The game is free to stream on oua.tv.
