KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 14, 2023) – Queen’s Women’s Volleyball played the second game of a doubleheader against the Windsor Lancers Saturday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre with the Gaels defeating the Lancers in a straight sets win 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-22).

The Gaels started off strong, with Rachael Meilikhan ending the first set with an ace for the 25-18 win. The Lancers were in the lead the majority of the second set but Queen’s was able to edge them out in the end, taking the set with a score of 25-22.

The third set was another tight match, but while the Lancers put up a good fight, they were no match for the Gaels.

Mary Stewart led the Gaels with 10 kills in the win while Lauren Mellon added nine. Kennedy Millin had a strong game with game-highs in assists (28) and blocks (5).

Vivian Zanutel had 11 digs for Queen’s while Arielle Palermo recorded six aces in the win.

Head coach Ryan Ratushniak highlighted after the game the importance of “playing with courage”, when the score gets close.

With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 8-4 and sit sixth in the OUA standings. Queen’s Women’s Volleyball is off next weekend before hosting the Nipissing Lakers for a doubleheader January 27-28 at the ARC. Tickets for both games can be purchased here.
