Weekend Story

KAMLOOPS – A rivalry weekend will bring the Heat inside the TCC this weekend when the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team plays host to the UBC Okanagan Heat.

The WolfPack (7-7) will host the Heat (1-15) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. The games will also serve as President’s Cup contests. An annual competition between TRU and UBCO since 1993, the President’s Cup is awarded to the school that wins the most games between the two institutions with both a men’s and women’s trophy awarded. TRU carries a 2-0 edge in the men’s competition heading into the weekend thanks to a pair of 4-0 wins during the soccer season.

TRU was absolutely dominant on home court last weekend. The ‘Pack took a pair of 3-0 wins over the MacEwan Griffins to secure their first 3-0, 3-0 sweep since the 2019-20 season. Outside Hitter Rylan Ibbetson was named the WolfPack Athlete of the Week after putting together two extremely efficient performances to rack up 16 kills.

The Heat fell 3-1 and 3-0 to the Calgary Dinos last weekend. Since splitting their first weekend of the season, UBCO has dropped 14-straight games.

UBCO earned a pair of 3-2 victories over the ‘Pack in Kelowna last season.

By The Numbers

14-11: TRU holds a 14-11 record against UBCO in CW play, including an 8-3 mark at home.

700: Sam Flowerday became the fifth member of the ‘Pack to record 700 career Canada West kills last weekend.

.47: Corbin Ockerman leads all of Canada West with .47 aces-per-set.
