Paris 2024 announces Paralympic Games event calendar

With less than 600 days to go before France hosts its first Paralympic Summer Games, Paris 2024 has unveiled its exciting and dynamic competition schedule which will see elite athletes enthrall the world over 11 days of breathtaking action between 28 August to 8 September 2024.

The event schedule, developed in close collaboration with the International Federations, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), gives a clear picture of what fans around the world can look forward to at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Sitting Volleyball Schedule

The full schedule, with the sport by sport programme, can be viewed here. This provisional schedule is subject to change up to the end of the Games.

The world’s best Para athletes will gather in Paris ready to make more history. They include:

  • ‘Blade Jumper’ Markus Rehm – the German athlete won the last three Paralympic titles in long jump and holds the world record of 8.62m, which is longer than the winning men’s long jump at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics of 8.41m.
  • Brazil’s blind football team, which won 27 matches in a row to become Paralympic champions five times since the sport was introduced to the Paralympic programme in 2004. Can reigning European champions France bring that amazing run to an end?
  • Dutch phenomenon Diede de Groot, who after becoming the first women’s wheelchair tennis player to achieve the Golden Slam in 2021 (singles gold medallist at the Paralympic Games and singles winner of the four Grand Slams), in 2022 became the first tennis player ever – not only a wheelchair tennis player – to win back-to-back calendar Grand Slams.

Thrilling competition from day one

The competitions will start the day after the Opening Ceremony, on Thursday, 29 August 2024, with spectators able to enjoy wheelchair rugby, Para taekwondo, Para archery, boccia, Para table tennis, goalball, wheelchair basketball, Para badminton, Para swimming, sitting volleyball and Para cycling.

The first medals will be awarded on this first day in Para taekwondo (three medals), Para swimming (16 medals) and Para cycling (four medals). In total, 23 medals will be awarded on the first day.

Unique evening entertainment

Book your evenings to attend the boccia, blind football and goalball finals. All the Para swimming finals will also be held in the evening (between 17:30 pm and 21:30) at the Paris Arena La Défense, and many Para athletics finals will take place between 19:00 and 22:00 at the Stade de France.

Extraordinary venues

Come and experience the unique emotion of the Paralympic Games in world-famous locations across Paris. On 1 and 2 September, Para triathletes will race across the magnificent Pont Alexandre III with its stunning scenery providing an unforgettable backdrop for sporting action.

Not far from there, under the beautiful glass roof of the Grand Palais, Para taekwondo competitions will begin on 29 August. On the other side of the Seine, just next to the dome of the Invalides, in the heart of Paris, Para equestrian competitions will take place from 3 September together with the blind football tournament in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Women in the spotlight

The Paris Paralympic Games competition will feature a record number of medal events for women.

On Sunday, 8 September, the very last day of competition, women will be in the spotlight with the majority of events being women’s events. No less than 14 medals will be awarded on the final day in wheelchair basketball (one medal), Para powerlifting (four medals), Para athletics (four sets of medals in the marathons), and Para canoe (five medals).
