Pandas make quick work of Cougars for 10th win

EDMONTON – Needing just 57 minutes to capture a victory, the U SPORTS No. 7 ranked Pandas wasted little time earning a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-11, 25-14) over the Regina Cougars on Saturday.

The win gives the Pandas a 10-2 conference record heading into the winter break, and a 16-3 overall record. The Cougars remain winless following the sweep, falling to 0-12.

Justine Kolody once again set the table for a dominant Pandas attack, dishing out a match-high 34 assists, to go along with 11 digs. Lauryn Tremblay and Laila Johnston led Alberta with eight kills each, with rookie Abby Guezen adding seven.

The Pandas scored a kill on 41 of their 82 attempts, finishing the game with a .378 attack percentage. Regina was unable to give Alberta much trouble in serve receive, recording just two aces, as Alberta ran in-system for a majority of Saturday’s win.

Four Cougars finished with three kills each, as the team committed more attack errors (21) than kills (16). Along with their 21 attack errors, the Pandas also finished with nine blocks, completely suffocating the Cougars offence.

The Pandas will return to action December 28th to 30, as they host the New Years Classic at Saville.
