Offence dominates in second sweep of Trent

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women’s volleyball team’s energy was electric Sunday afternoon in their 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-12) match against the Trent Excalibur.

Throughout the game, TMU earned 44 kills and limited the opposing team to just 11. The win concludes the team’s doubleheader weekend sweep in Peterborough and improves their win record to 7-4.

The first and second sets saw TMU going in on the kill. The Bold had 14 kills per set, dominating in the first and maintaining control of the ball in the second.

Ashley Ditchfield, who led the Bold attack with nine kills from the middle,  produced early in the match.

In the third, the Bold consistently protected their side of the court. Good blocking by Julie Moore and timely digs (eight each) from Mary Rioflorido and Sarah Zonneveld, who ended the match with 32 assists and four service aces, kept the Excalibur at bay while the team racked up another 25 to take the win.

The team will return home to play the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Mattamy Athletic Centre next weekend in a two-game doubleheader series. First serve on Friday flies at 6 p.m.
