No. 4 Badgers make quick work of Gryphons in season opener

GUELPH –  Traveling to Guelph to open the 2022-23 season, the No. 4 nationally ranked Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team delivered a straight sets victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night. Set scores for the match were 25-20, 25-17, 25-19.

A complete team effort, six different Badgers players recorded five or more points in the win. Leading the way was second-year right side Sadie Dick who tallied 11 total points from eight kills and three blocks. Also reaching double-digit points in the win, fifth-year middle and 2022 OUA first team all-star Grace Pyatt registered 10 points from nine kills and a service ace. Second-year left side Madison Chimienti also delivered a well-rounded offensive performance with six kills, two aces, and a block for nine total points.The dynamic duo of second-year standouts were both OUA second team all-stars and OUA all-rookie team honourees a season ago.

Both Sara Rohr and Lauren Teehan took time in the setter position for the Badgers with Rohr finishing the night with 21 assists, and Teehan notching 12.

Defensively, third-year libero Aleiah Torres recorded a game-high 16 digs.

The Badgers and Gryphons are right back at it tomorrow afternoon, but from the home court of Bob Davis Gym for Brock. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. with tickets available for purchase at brocku.universitytickets.com. The game will also be available to stream on OUA.TV.
