Madison Tuck led the Badgers with a career-high 11.5 points as Brock swept the Lakehead Thunderwolves (25-9, 25-22, 25-22) on Friday, Dec 1. at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Tuck notched 10 kills, one service ace and an assisted block while fourth-year middle Meera Sayal had 8.5 points off six kills, one service and 1.5 blocks. Setters Sara Rohr and Mackenna Knox distributed 20 and 14 assists, respectively. Third-year outside hitter Emily Foest led the team with eight digs.
The Thunderwolves scored the first three points of the set, but it was all Badgers from that point as they earned 25 of the next 31 points. Brock made the comeback with a strong .444 hitting percentage in the set, notching 10 kills on 18 attempts with only two errors.
In the second set, Lakehead showed their fight, holding a two-point lead as late as 18-16. The Badgers took advantage of some errors from the visitors to take back the lead. Back-to-back kills from Tuck and Madison Chimienti sealed the 25-22 second set for the Badgers.
Lakehead burst out to a 4-1 lead in the third set before the Badgers retook the lead with three straight kills from Tuck. Brock’s lead got as large as six before the Thunderwolves closed the gap. Tuck’s 10th kill and a service error from Lakehead gave the Badgers a three-set sweep.
Up next, the Badgers (6-1) will face the Lakehead Thunderwolves (1-4) in the second match of the doubleheader weekend tomorrow on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
