The No. 3 Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team walked away victorious against the No. 4 Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Kingston, winning in three straight sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-17).
St. Catharines product and outside hitter Sadie Dick lead the way with 12 kills in the game for the Badgers. Veteran setter Sara Rohr, who leads the OUA in assists per set, recorded 29 in the match. Outside hitter Emily Foest’s ten digs was a game-high for either team.
A kill from middle Meera Sayal got things rolling for the Badgers who picked up the first point in the opening set. Timeouts from Queen’s helped the Gaels briefly chip into Brock’s lead before the Badgers picked up five straight points, making it 19-13.
Rohr’s impressive 13 assists in the first set helped the Badgers take the set win 25-16. Brock recorded 16 kills compared to Queen’s six.
The Gaels looked to rebound in the second set, earning an early lead. An important timeout from the Badgers saw Brock swing the momentum in their favour, eventually taking a 13-12 off a Gaels’ service error.
Kills from Madison Chimienti, Gigi Markotic and Dick helped the Badgers increase their second-set advantage. Dick, who earned five skills in the second set, was responsible for earning the last point in the set for the Badgers as they won 25-19.
After trading points to open the third set, it was Madison Tuck’s ace that gave the Badgers a 12-10 lead. Multiple errors from the Gaels combined with an ace from Rohr increased the Badgers massive advantage to 24-14.
A well-placed attack from Dick ended the game as the Badgers won the third set 25-17.
