The No. 2 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders men’s volleyball team took care of business in sweeping fashion against the Brock Badgers in a Wednesday night affair at Burridge Gym, 3-0.
Extending their win streak across all competitions to 11 straight games, the Marauders not only qualified and earned the right to host the Forsyth Cup this Saturday, but also punched their ticket to the U SPORTS championship taking place next week in Manitoba.
As a team, the Marauders bested their visitors in hitting percentage and kills, recording 45 kills on .265 hitting percentage compared to the Badgers 28 and .184 percentage.
Leading the way was 2022 OUA first-team all-star Sam Cooper with 12 kills and seven digs for a game-high 13.4 points. Not far behind was 2022 OUA West second-team all-star selection, Wojtek Kraj, with 12 points in due part to his nine kills on a .375 hitting percentage to go along with five total blocks and five digs on the night.
First-year setter, and All-Rookie team member Robbie Fujisawa dished out 35 assists in the win, while veteran libero Jordan Pereira was pivotal on the defensive end with nine crucial digs.
For the Badgers credit, 2022 OUA West MVP Logan House tried the Marauders defence with 10 kills on the day off 27 attacks but it wouldn’t prove to be enough for the St. Catharines squad.
With the win, the Marauders have a set a date with the OUA East Division champion No. 4 Toronto Varsity Blues in the Forsyth Cup Final. This will be the first time these two teams meet since November 2019 where the Marauders came away with the 3-0 sweep at home.
