No. 2 Badgers wrangle Mustangs with ease

It was a straightforward night for the No. 2 ranked Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team, as they cruised to a straight-sets victory (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) against the Western Mustangs on Friday, Jan. 26 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

This was the Badgers ninth win in a row as they continue to push for the No. 1 rank in the country.

It was a great all-around team effort in this one with the Badgers receiving major contributions from many players. Right side Sadie Dick led the way with nine kills and five digs. Emily Foest notched seven kills and three service aces and Madison Chimienti had eight kills of her own. Senior libero Aleiah Torres played some fantastic defence with 12 digs, while fifth-year setter Sara Rohr dished out 28 assists.

The Badgers got off to a dominate start, opening up a 9-1 lead in the first set. Brock was extremely effective in their attacks, as they delivered a .406 hitting percentage in the opening frame. Western was the complete opposite, attacking at a mere .067%, which led to the Badgers taking the set with ease 25-11.

Western came out in the second set looking much stronger, as Brock only led 6-5 after 11 points. However, the Badgers completely took over the set from there as Rohr, Gigi Markotic and Dick got the Brock offence rolling. The Badgers cruised to a 25-15 second-set win.

In the third set, Brock rotated many of their bench players into the game and was able to still control the game. Brock attacked at their highest percentage of the night at .476 and closed out the three-set sweep.

Next up, the Badgers (14-1) will host the Western Mustangs (7-5) again on Saturday, Jan. 27 with the game starting at 6 p.m. You can purchase your tickets at https://brocku.universitytickets.com/ or catch the game live on OUA.tv.
