Nine Windsor Lancers were honoured at the 16th annual WESPY Awards on Wednesday night at the Caboto Club in Windsor.
The WESPY Awards recognize outstanding local athletes for their success and contribution to their respective sports. The awards were based on the athletes’ accomplishments during the 2022 calendar year.
The Lancers swept the volleyball category as Dami Alalade captured the trophy on the men’s side, and Brooke Davis brought it home for the women. During the 2021-22 season, Alalade was OUA all-star for the second time in his career while finishing second in the OUA in blocks per set and third in hitting percentage. Davis was also named an OUA all-star for the second time and finished first overall in the OUA with 21 service aces, and fourth in service aces per set. She set up her teammates with over 300 assists to finish 5th in the OUA in that category.
The Lancers also swept the golf category as Vanessa Ardovini and Nicholas Tanovich were named the golf athletes of the year. Ardovini helped the Lancers to a bronze medal finish at the OUA championship, while Tanovich placed 8th overall to be named an OUA all-star.
