NEUERT, BLUES BLANK GRYPHONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) on Saturday, January 7 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
 
TORONTO STATS: Mitchelle Neuert led all players with a season-high 18 points off of 15 kills, two aces and one block. He also had a game-high eight digs on the night.
 
Hayden Cavendar tallied 10 points, while fellow veteran Evan Falardeau had nine points and six digs. Michael Hickey tallied 27 assists in the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues were flying and sprinting after the ball in first set to secure their win. Talsma and Falardeau’s attack efforts resulted in a flawless 25-15 score.
 
The second set tested Toronto at the start, but they quickly gained a small lead and held onto it, edging the Gryphons 25-23.
 
The beginning of the third set followed a similar challenging pattern, but the Gryphons were inevitably defeated, 25-21.  
 
UP NEXT: The Blues return to action next Sunday, January 15 as they host the McMaster Marauders in their annual OVA Day. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
