CALGARY – The University of British Columbia men’s volleyball team has been stripped of six wins during the 2022 Canada West regular season due to an ineligible player participating in those games, the conference announced Wednesday.
As per U SPORTS regulations, British Columbia forfeits all results in which the ineligible player played.
“This is an unfortunate and challenging situation for all the student-athletes who are impacted as well as the greater Canada West community,” said Kavie Toor, UBC’s Managing Director, Athletics and Recreation. “We have worked with U SPORTS in review of the situation while also committing to review our internal processes.”
The forfeits result in UBC being stripped of six wins: Jan. 14 vs Thompson Rivers, Jan. 15 vs Thompson Rivers, Feb. 11 vs Fraser Valley, Feb. 12 vs Fraser Valley, Feb. 18 vs British Columbia Okanagan, and Feb. 19 vs British Columbia Okanagan. Those games are now 3-0 wins for the opposing teams. Two other games affected by the infraction, Jan. 28 & 29 losses to Trinity Western, remain intact.
Prior to the forfeitures, UBC finished the season at 10-6. They now finish the season at 4-12.
Updated WEST standings
- TWU (no changes) 15-1
- UBCO (previously 3rd) 10-6
- TRU (previously 4th) 8-8
- UBC (previously 2nd) 4-12
- UFV (remains in 5th) 3-13
Due to the travel logistics and complications for week one playoff games affecting other teams, UBC remains in its original pool for this weekend’s first round of playoffs.
U SPORTS may apply additional sanctions upon completion of its review process.
