Box Score WINNIPEG, MB – The Saskatchewan Huskies were on the road for their final games of the Canada West season, heading to Manitoba to compete against the Winnipeg Wesmen. The Huskies currently sit in fourth place in the Canada West standings and are looking to maintain their spot to host the first round of playoffs at home.
Saskatchewan would outlast Winnipeg and take the win in four sets (25-27, 25-21, 28-26, 25-19).
Winnipeg would be in the lead for much of the first set. With the Huskies trailing 19-15, they would go on a six-point run to take the lead at 21-19. The Wesmen offence would continue to push the Huskies though, and they would win the set 27-25. Winnipeg would find a way to stop Saskatchewan powerhouse Dylan Mortensen, keeping him to just six kills in the set.
The second set would go back and forth until a 16-16 tie. From there, the Huskies would grab seven of the next eight points to go up 23-17. A late run by Winnipeg would bring the score closer but the Huskies would take the second set 25-21.
The Huskies would trail for the entirety of the third set, eventually getting to a 25-25 tie. Winnipeg would grab the first point of the tie but kills from Dylan Mortensen and Mark Armstrong put the Huskies up 27-26. Saskatchewan would end the set with a service ace from Dylan Mortensen and the 28-26 win.
Both teams were again evenly matched to start the fourth set, moving to a 15-15 tie. That proved to be the turning point as the Huskies would keep the Wesmen to just four points and would take the set 25-19 and the 3-1 game win.
