London, ON – The Western Mustangs Men’s Volleyball team is set to welcome seven new student-athletes to the program for the 2024-25 season as Head Coach Jim Sage announces his recruit class.
This year’s recruits include Ethan Field, Tyler Gibson, Jack Grochmal, Tyler Liu, Matthew Mowbray, Sean Murakami & Brody Skeoch.
“This is a great group of recruits coming in to replace 5 graduating Seniors. I am extremely excited about their potential and character.” said Sage “I look forward to watching them compete and being welcomed to the Mustangs family”.

Ethan Field
Why did you choose Western?: Western was always my first choice, it’s academic and athletic culture is well respected and I am proud to also be a school legacy.
I look forward to joining the western community and becoming a Mustang. Go Stangs!
Athletic Accomplishments: 2 time member of Team Alberta, Silver Medal at Canada Cup, 2 time Provincial Champion,
Academic Accomplishments: Honours with Distinction in 2021 & 2023
Tyler Gibson
Why did you choose Western?: I joined Western because of their outstanding academic prestige and proficiency and their varsity volleyball teams competitive caliber.
Athletic Accomplishments: Provincial and National OVA Champions, OFSAA Champions.
Jack Grochmal
Why did you choose Western?: The people I met at Western and those who have been here have all talked about the school in a great way. Between what I experienced, the people and the school itself was perfect for what I was looking for.
Athletic Accomplishments: Most promising athlete, Most sportsmanlike athlete, AAA OFSAA volleyball antique bronze.
Academic Accomplishments: Honours with distinction all 4 years of High School. Waterloo Math Contest school winner.
Community Involvement: Door to door can food collection, hot food deliveries, gift donation and deliveries, assistant coaching volleyball and basketball, high school LINK leader, and volunteer referee.
Tyler Liu
Why did you choose Western?: I’m attending Western University because I am given the opportunity to continue playing volleyball post-secondary and I feel that I’ll be able to further my skills alongside my academic career.
Athletic Accomplishments: 2024 Senior Boys Volleyball Team Captain, 2023 Male Athlete of the Year, Junior Coach at Ronin Volleyball
Academic accomplishments: Honour Roll Student 2021-2024
Matthew Mowbray
Why did you choose Western?: I chose Western because of the academic prestige and the amazing campus. I also picked Western due to volleyball program and how easy and enjoyable it was to play and practice with the players.
Athletic Accomplishments: I am currently playing for Pakmen volleyball club, I was selected for the Team Ontario Beach Volleyball program. In my senior year of high school I was named an all star for my county and led my team to an OFSAA appearance where we were given the sportsmanship award for how our team carried itself.
Academic Accomplishments: Honours throughout high school, finished with a 91 average.
Sean Murakami
Why did you choose Western?: I am attending Western because of it’s great reputation for both academics and athletics.

Brody Skeoch
Why did you choose Western?: I chose Western for their reputable academics and athletics as well as the student culture. I’m super excited to get started!
Athletic Accomplishments: 3rd place at provincials, 2nd place at provincials (2023), 4th place at nationals (2023) & OVA award of excellence
The Mustangs 2024-25 regular season schedule will open on November 8 on the road to take on York. The home opener is set for November 15 as they host McMaster.
