On Tuesday morning, U SPORTS announced their latest top 10 rankings and three Mount Royal teams earned national recognition for their continued success.
The Cougars men’s volleyball team received the seventh spot in the national leaderboard for the second straight week. MRU displayed dominance on Friday, winning 3-0 vs. the MacEwan Griffins. Saturday’s match offered a similar performance from the team as they defeated MacEwan 3-1, improving their record to 8-4. Read about the men’s volleyball rankings on usports.ca.
MRU’s women’s hockey team moved down one spot to the third overall ranking in the U SPORTS top 10. The Cougars had their seven-game winning streak snapped when they fell to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies by a 5-2 score on Friday at Flames Community Arenas. However, the defending national champions flipped the script on Saturday, defeating the Huskies 5-2 and moving their record to 14-4-0. Read about the women’s hockey rankings on usports.ca.
Mount Royal’s men’s hockey team jumped five spots in the U SPORTS top 10, earning fifth overall in the country. The team leaped past their weekend opponents, the Saskatchewan Huskies after two convincing victories. On Friday, the Cougars prevailed 3-1 after two third period goals. They followed up with another win with an outstanding offensive performance and taking the game 7-4. At the end of 2023, MRU sits fourth in Canada West with a 13-5-0 record.
