Mount Royal’s MHKY, WHKY, MVB teams earn U SPORTS top 10 nods heading into playoffs

Inching closer to the postseason, U SPORTS announced their national top 10 rankings, including three Mount Royal squads.

MRU’s men’s hockey team enters the Canada West playoffs holding onto their #3 ranking in U SPORTS. The Cougars split with the fifth-ranked UBC Thunderbirds in back-to-back shootout games during the regular season finale. Next weekend, MRU hosts the MacEwan Griffins for a best-of-three series in the CW quarter-final. Read about the men’s hockey rankings on usports.ca.

Mount Royal women’s hockey team moved fell two rankings to earn the #6 spot in the country. The Cougars finished the regular season with a program-best 20-7-1 record. MRU was swept by the second-ranked UBC Thunderbirds last weekend. The team looks ahead to next weekend for a best-of-three series against the Manitoba Bisons in the quarterfinal round.
