MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: LAKERS MANAGE A SPLIT ON THE ROAD AT TORONTO

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team finished the weekend with a split on the road and have now won two of their past three matches.

After starting 0-3, the Lakers have won two of three after falling 3-0 to the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night, before returning the favour Saturday night, winning 3-0 to close out the weekend.

Friday night, all three sets went Toronto’s way, despite each of them being within four points, including the first and third that were two-point games.

The Lakers lost 25-23, 25-21 and 31-29.

Justice Smith led the Lakers offence with 14 kills and Jacob Ringma added 13 of his own in the contest.

Friday, the team made sure to salvage the weekend, winning in straight sets.

They earned wins of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23 on the second night.

Smith led the Lakers offence with 17 kills, Tyrus Cuculick added 11 and Trent O’Brien had 10 in the victory.

The Lakers remain on the road next weekend, heading to London to take on the Western Mustangs for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday.
