Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team showed some strong composure on the weekend, bouncing back from a loss to earn a weekend split.
After a tough loss Friday night, the Lakers picked up a win Saturday to finish their season-opening weekend with a split against the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph.
On Friday, Nipissing won the first set 25-17, but dropped three in a row – all close contests – to come up short in their first match of the season.
Jackson Young had a big night, posting 23 points, while Jeremie Murray and Tyrus Cuculick each added nine points in the match.
Looking to rebound, Nipissing came out very strong, winning the first two sets before dropping a tight third game.
They responded in the fourth, picking up a convincing victory to take the match 3-1.
Young and Cuculick had monster matches, posting 18 kills each to lead the Lakers offence.
Nipissing will head into a bye weekend will next see action in a few weeks when they host the RMC Paladins in North Bay.
