Box Score Coming off a tough loss Friday night, the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team was looking to bounce back Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers took on the Windsor Lancers for the second straight day at the Robert J. Surtees Athletic Centre.
It was another hard-fought match, but the Lakers came up short, falling in straight sets, 3-0 to Windsor.
To begin the match, the Lakers got down early, trailing 9-4.
They fought back in the middle stages, but were still playing catch-up throughout the entire set.
Down 21-13, Nipissing went on a run to cut into their deficit, but the Lancers put the set away, winning 25-19.
In the second set, the Lakers started much better, sitting tied 6-6 early on.
Windsor pulled away midway through, building up a 17-14 lead and moving with two points of a win, as they led 24-22.
Nipissing stormed back and the teams went deep into the set, tied from 24-24 all the way to 33-33 before the Lancers stole two points to win 35-33 and go up 2-0 in the match.
In the third, with the Lancers looking to close out the Lakers, Nipissing found themselves down 16-13 midway through the game.
While they managed short bursts, looking to mount the comeback, the Lakers fell short and the Lancers put the set and match away, winning 25-19.
The sweep gives both the Lakers and Lancers the weekend split.
Jackson Young had 13 kills and 15.5 points, while Tyrus Cuculick added 7.5 kills and 10.5 points for the Lakers.
The Lakers host the Toronto Varsity Blues for a pair of matches next weekend as their homestand continues.
