The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team beat the TMU Bold 3-2 in a five-set thriller on Friday (Oct. 20) night at the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.
The Blues were led by outside hitter Jayden Talsma who finished the game with 20 points, including 16 kills, three solo blocks and one assist. Middle Lukas Humle recorded 15 points in the victory, with 11 kills, two service aces and one solo block. Davis Young recorded a game high 48 assists.
The Blues started off on the right foot, with lots of energy and power, reflected in their 27-25 win of the first set. In the second and third sets, the Blues battled hard but would ultimately fall 25-23 and 30-28, respectively. Taking back the momentum in the fourth set, the Blues rallied hard to tie up the game with a 25-23 set victory. With the game up for grabs, the Blues took the deciding fifth set 17-15.
The Blues will continue their preseason matches on Sunday, October 22 when they face off against the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
