Men’s volleyball head coach Arnd ‘Lupo’ Ludwig is pleased to announce the commitment of 6’5″, 195-pound middle blocker Tyson Nachtigall for the 2023-24 season.
A Winnipeg native, Nachtigall played the last two seasons in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference with the Briercrest Clippers, located in Caronport, Saskatchewan.
He had a .406 hitting percentage in 2022-23 and was in the top five in the conference in blocks per set, helping the Clippers to their second ACAC title in February, while also being named a playoff tournament all-star. Briercrest also won bronze at CCAA nationals in March in Toronto.
“We are very excited to welcome Tyson into the Herd,” said Ludwig. “I’ve known Tyson since he started playing volleyball and he has always been one of the hardest working boys in the gym. His decision to transfer to the University ot Manitoba shows his dedication and commitment to taking his skills and his game to the next level.”
As Ludwig mentioned, he and Nachtigall’s relationship dates back to the club level, where the former coached the latter’s 15U WinMan team that won a provincial title in 2018. Nachtigall played his entire club career (13U-18U) with WinMan and also won a provincial title in 2017.
He attended River East in high school, and his current GPA is 3.7. Nachtigall’s dad also played for the Bisons volleyball team as a middle in the 1992-93 season.
“I am excited to come back home and play for the Bisons next season,” he said. “I am extremely thankful for my coach and teammates here at Briercrest for pouring into me these past two years and pushing me to grow as an athlete and person. I look forward to continue developing as an athlete and help contribute to the growth of the Bison program.
