Men’s volleyball add first recruit in Kai Taylor

The TMU men’s volleyball team announced their first commitment of the 2024 recruiting cycle, signing outside hitter and libero Kai Taylor, from Oakville, Ontario. Taylor joins the Bold after a decorated junior career at both the club and school level.

Taylor won the U-16 indoor national championship, as well as a bronze medal at nationals for beach volleyball. At the provincial level, Taylor captured a U-16 indoor gold medal, a U-18 indoor silver medal, and a provincial bronze for beach volleyball. To top it all off, he was named an honour roll student in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.

“We are very excited to add Kai Taylor to our roster this season! Kai brings a level of ball control to our program that will immediately improve our practice environment,” said head coach Niko Rukavina. “His serve, receive and defensive game will bring him success at the OUA level and we are very excited to get him in the gym and start working on his game.”

He’ll be joining the mechanical engineering program when he arrives on campus in the fall, a program many of his fellow teammates are already in. He believes that the support system around him will lead to strong results, both on and off the court.

“I really like the engineering program I was accepted to, and many teammates are in a similar program so there will be lots of support,” added Taylor. “I really respect coach Niko, and am looking forward to working with him and the team.”

The first serve of the 2024-25 season flies on October 25th in Windsor, with the home opener scheduled for November 7th from the MAC against Trent.
