McGill volleyball player Iannotti named RSEQ athlete of the week

MONTREAL – Victoria Iannotti of the McGill women’s volleyball team and Haris Elezovic, a McGill basketball graduate now playing for Laval, are the RSEQ University athletes of the week, sponsored by Go Pure, for the period ending Feb. 4, 2024. Student-athletes from McGill have now won 11 conference and five national weekly awards during the 2023-24 season.
 
Iannotti, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter from St. Laurent, Que., scored 28.5 points over six sets as the No.10-ranked McGill Martlets extended their win streak to four with a 3-0 victory over UQTR at home on Friday (Feb. 2), followed by a 3-0 win at UQAM on Sunday (Feb. 4). The results put McGill in a three-way tie for first place with a 13-5 record in the eight-team RSEQ conference. Iannotti, a 24-year-old software engineering senior, registered her points on the strength of 23 kills, four service aces and three assisted stuff blocks. On defence, she contributed 14 digs and one assist. A co-captain with the Martlets.

Elezovic, an MBA student at Laval who studied commerce at McGill’s Desautels School of Management last spring, combined for 34 points and 38 rebounds in a pair of victories over first-place UQAM last week. The 6-foot-7 forward is a 21-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Que.

McGill’s athlete of the week recipients in 2023-24 feature five U SPORTS awards, including swimmers Hazem Issa (TWICE: Dec. 6, Jan. 24) and Elizabeth Ling (Dec. 6) along with volleyball’s Victoria Iannotti (Nov. 15) and hockey player William Rouleau (Jan. 31). The 11 conference awards feature one OUA recipient (William Rouleau, Jan. 29) and 10 RSEQ honourees, including basketball’s Sean Herscovitch (Nov. 29), volleyball’s Victoria Iannotti (TWICE: Nov. 14, Feb. 6), swimming’s Hazem Issa (Oct. 24) and Elizabeth Ling (THREE times: Oct. 11, Dec. 5, Jan. 23), plus rugby’s Martin Laval (Sept. 12) and Lauren Minns (Sept. 5), in addition to football’s Brandon Ciccarello (Sept. 5).
