MCAC announces second annual True Sport Team for women’s volleyball

The Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) is pleased to announce the second annual True Sport Team for volleyball teams in the 2022-23 season.

The True Sport Team was developed to recognize student athletes who demonstrate the principles of True Sport on the field of play, in the classroom and in the community.

MCAC – 2022-23 True Sport Team for women’s volleyball

Gina Musgrave – Assiniboine Community College (ACC) Cougars women’s volleyball

Lauren Ens – Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers women’s volleyball

Emma Rogalsky – Providence University College (PUC) Pilots women’s volleyball

Angéline Ritchot – Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges women’s volleyball

The True Sport seven principles that guided the selection for the Team:

1.   Go For It – Rise to the challenge – always strive for excellence. Be persistent and discover how good you can be.

2.   Play Fair – Understand, respect, and follow the rules. Play with integrity – competition is only meaningful when it is fair.

3.   Respect Others – Show respect for everyone involved in creating your sporting experience, both on and off the field of play. Win with dignity and lose with grace.

4.   Keep It Fun – Find the joy in sport and share it with others. Remember what you love about sport and why you play.

5.   Stay Healthy – Always respect and care for your mind and body. Advocate for the health and safety of yourself and those around you.

6.   Include Everyone – Recognize and celebrate strength in diversity. Invite and welcome others into sport.

7.   Give Back – Say thanks and show gratitude. Encourage your sport group to make a difference in the community.

All the nominated student-athletes will be invited to apply for the Bill Wedlake True Sport Awards. These awards were established to recognize Bill Wedlake, the first Executive Director for the MCAC and his commitment to living the True Sport Principles with the MCAC. At the end of each season, two student-athletes will receive a $250 award.

Head coaches comments about True Sport recipients:

Gina Musgrave (ACC Cougars WVB) – “Gina is a terrific student-athlete to coach who will move on to do great things in the future.”

Lauren Ens (CMU Blazers WVB) – “Her beaming smile and positive attitude help elevate everyone around her. She is so invested in seeing her teammates and classmates succeed that you can see them feed off her energy and enthusiasm. She brings joy to the Blazers gym whenever she is there!” – CMU’s Director, Athletics Cara Isaak

Emma Rogalsky (PUC Pilots WVB) – “Emma is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. She is kind and respectful and gives her whole heart into everything she does. She is always smiling and having a great time. Emma is respectful of everyone and cares deeply for those around her. She is committed to her workouts, practices and games and truly enjoys all of it. Emma is very deserving of and represents this award.”

Angéline Ritchot (USB Les Rouges WVB) – “Angéline is the type of person, athlete and teammate that every team would embrace and accept with open arms. Her positive energy is always on display during every practice, game and team meeting. She is highly engaged in all aspects of the game, continuously looking to better herself as an athlete. She learns quickly and also applies those valuable concepts to her life outside of volleyball. She encourages everyone to be their best and even though her leadership style is to lead by example, she isn’t shy to speak up and share her insights. Not only is Angéline the type of athlete you love to coach, she is an exceptional person with strong values and character. She truly embodies all the values of True Sport.”
