Marauders Take Down Lions in Four Sets on the Road

The Marauders defeated the Lions in four sets on Saturday night on the road. They continue their season undefeated and extend their win streak to 14.  

The first set started out close, with points going back and forth. York was strong on their blocks against the powerful Marauder offense, challenging them at the net. Mid-set, McMaster began to find themselves a lead, displaying their consistently threatening offense. The Marauders were versatile in their offense with kills coming from all over the court from Peter Rugosi (Toronto, Ont.), Mateusz Wlodarski (Ottawa, Ont.) and Brendan Mills (London, Ont.). McMaster was able to best the Lions in the first set, winning 25-20.  

After a competitive first set, the Lions were able to find a small lead at the start of the second set, off-putting the Marauders. York held onto a three or four-point lead for the majority of the set, but the Marauders were able to close in on them around the twentieth point. Despite their efforts, York reached the set point first. The Marauders weren’t ready to back down yet, as they scored three consecutive points, but it wasn’t enough as York upset the Marauders and took the set 25-22. 

The Marauders turned their momentum around in the third set, taking a strong lead early on. McMaster held onto a small lead, but the Lions continued to fight back to stay in the game. Despite the challenges from York, the Marauders were able to hold onto the offensive edge. In a close set, McMaster was able to finish on top, 25-21.  

McMaster took a confident lead early in the fourth set, while the Lions fought to stay alive in the game. The Marauders went on multiple point runs, distancing themselves into a comfortable lead. Robbie Fujisawa (North York, Ont.) was there to support the team throughout the sets, leading in assists. McMaster was able to finish the game with a kill from Rugosi, who had a strong overall offensive game. The final score of the last set was decisively 25-13.

Looking forward, the Marauders will have a short break before battling against the RMC Paladins at home on Feb. 3rd and 4th.
