LIONS SWEPT BY BADGERS FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE NIGHT

The York University Lions women’s volleyball team battled hard against the No. 3 team in the country, the Brock Badgers, in the second game of a weekend back-to-back in St. Catharines. However, some dominant play up front and excellent quickness in space from Brock, and some critical mistakes from the Lions, resulted in a second straight three-set sweep for the Badgers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Lions got out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set, but from there it was all Brock. They were dominant at the net in the opening set, blocking several Lion attack attempts. Sadie Dick and Emily Foest had six kills apiece in the first, leading the Badgers to a 25-19 first set win and a 1-0 lead.
  • The home side picked up right where it left off from the opening set, continuing to fire on all cylinders. They jumped out to a 16-4 lead, and while the Lions made a slight dent in the deficit midway through the set, cutting it to 17-10, the Lions couldn’t get any closer. Brock closed out the second off a kill from Grace Pyatt and took it 25-14 to grab a 2-0 lead.
  • The Badgers maintained control early in the third set, leading but the Lions made a run to close the gap. They eventually took the lead, 23-21, but a couple errors from York tied it back up. The set went to extra points and with the Badgers up 26-25, an Olivia Kim attack error ended it with Brock taking the third set 27-25 and the match 3-0.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions head to Peterborough for the second time this season to battle the Trent Excalibur. York earned a 3-0 win over Trent in the final game before the holiday break on December 3.
