LIONS LACK FINAL TOUCH IN KINGSTON AS GAELS TAKE THE SECOND MATCH OF WEEKEND SERIES

The York University Lions men’s volleyball team takes on the Queen’s Gaels for their second game of the weekend in Kingston. Looking to bounce back after their loss to the Gaels last night, the team looks to gain their third win of the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The beginning of the first set saw the Lions take and maintain a 1-point lead. The Lions then took a 4-point streak bringing the game to 15-8. The Gaels followed suit with a 4-point streak of their own, closing the gap to 15-12. The Lions were ahead 20-16 when the Gaels found a second lifeline, making their way back to 23-23. The Gaels maintain their momentum taking the set 25-23. 
  • In the second set, each team takes points to 10-10. The Gaels take a 3-point stretch which helps them take the lead 21-16 against the Lions. With continued pressure and increased intensity, the Gaels take the set 25-18. 
  • The third set saw the Lions taking the lead 9-5 with kills from Alexandru Ignat, Richard Housen Jr, and Daniel Lafleur. The Lions were then up 16-10, but this lead was interrupted by a few 3-4 point streaks from the Gaels, bringing the score to 18-14 and then 22-22. The Gaels ultimately took the set 25-23. 

LOOKING AHEAD: 

The Lions men’s volleyball team looks forward to their matchup against Trent Excalibur at home on Friday, January 26th and Saturday, January 27th. Both with first serve set for 8:00pm.
