The York University Lions women’s volleyball team is in search of their first 2023-24 victory this weekend against the Western Mustangs. The Lions fought hard on Saturday evening, taking the 2022-23 OUA Champions, the McMaster Marauders, into a five set contest, ultimately falling short. 2-3
The Lions welcome in the Marauders to Tait McKenzie Centre for their third straight home contest, looking to turn the tables. The Marauders were strong throughout the first set, taking it 16-25, but the Lions were not out of the game. York bounced back stealing the next two sets, and looking like they might be on a role thanks to Madison Shanks’ 15 kills on the night. The Marauders came back in the fourth set to tie the game at two a piece, requiring a fifth set of play. The final set bounced back and forth with both teams keeping the other close, but the Marauders got the final edge to win 16-14 and take the Lions 3-2.
