The York Lions women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 in game two of a weekend back-to-back against the Queen’s Gaels.
The Lions lost 25-15 and 25-14 in the game’s opening two sets. In the third set, the Lions took the lead for the first time in the game, but were narrowly edged 27-25 as the Gaes mounted a late comeback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gaels went up 5-0 in the first set, setting them up to hold a significant lead on route to a 10-point victory 25-15 in set one.
- Midway through the second set, the Lions fell behind 20-9 as the momentum looked to have shifted from the previous game. The Lions then ultimately dropped the second set 25-14. This put them on the brink, down 2-0.
- The Lions then started the third set on a positive note, with spikes from Olivia Kim, Amarai Endes and Alisa Trubyuk putting them ahead 3-1. After falling behind 12-7 midway through the third set, the Lions stepped up their pursuit and took a 13-12 lead, forcing a time-out from the opposition.
- An intense rally ensued at the end of the third set, as the Lions play through the middle of the court with Endes, Kim and Reynolds proving to be lethal.
- However the Gaels were not knocked down easily as they brought it back to 25-25, and took the next two points to seal the victory.
