A second half of the season battle, the York University Lions women’s volleyball team travel to Kingston to play the Queen’s Gaels, the fourth seeded team in the OUA. After two, three set losses to the Waterloo Warriors on the weekend, York is working to claw their way into snapping a six game losing streak.
The Lions took to the court on Friday evening in Kingston, and opened the first set in a tightly contested game. The set remained close until the Warriors jumped ahead and secured it 25-22. Amarai Endes got the Lions started in the second with a big kill, and when the set was in favour of the Warriors 16-9, Endes and Alisa Trubyuk both struck kills to bring York back. Their performances were not enough and Waterloo took set two 25-16. Waterloo got on a run in the third and took control of the game, taking a decisive 25-15 win and a 3-0 victory over York.
Ready for a rematch on Saturday, the Lions efforts were shown as they took the first three points of the opening set. The teams had strong rallies but ultimately, the Warriors took set one 25-22. The second set was back-and-forth again, and neither team led by more than three points until late in the set, the Warriors pulled away 17-13 and continued on to win set two, 25-19. Down 2-0, the Lions tried to work their way back, but the Warriors game was strong. Jordyn Sealock delivered a kill to tie the game 5-5, but again Waterloo got the lead back.
