LIONS EARN STRAIGHT SETS WIN OVER RIVAL TORONTO ON THE ROAD

Published on

After dropping contests to them earlier in the season, the York University Lions women’s volleyball team came up with a statement straight sets win against the Toronto Varsity Blues on the road Friday night. They downed Toronto 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 in three tightly-contested sets of volleyball.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first set saw Toronto and York trade leads, and the teams rallied for a 23-23 tie down the stretch. It was two late kills from Olivia Kim which made the difference for the Lions, handing them the slim two-point win margin over the Blues.
  • The second set began with a tight score, but the Lions pulled away in what began with a 5-0 run in the middle portions of the set to go up 15-11. The Lions kept a similar-sized lead for the remainder of the set and carried it to the end, winning 25-19.
  • Responding to their 0-2 deficit, the Blues opened up a 9-5 lead in the third set, leaving the Lions with some work to do. York was down for the entire set, until they took the lead on a kill from Jessica Reynolds. That made it 24-23, and they ended the game on their first match point.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions will waste no time in returning to road action, with a game in Guelph, Ont. against the Gryphons. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26, with the game beginning at 6 pm.
