Laval’s Raymond and Siksna of Queen’s are the U SPORTS volleyball players of the week

Laval’s Justine Raymond and Queen’s Erik Siksna have been named the U SPORTS volleyball players of the week for the period ending January 29, 2023.


Justine Raymond, Laval

Position: Middle Blocker
Hometown: Victoriaville, Qué.
Year of eligibility: 2nd
Academic program: Pre-school and Primary Education

Justine Raymond is the U SPORTS player of the week in women’s volleyball after an impressive 41-point weekend. After putting up 23 kills and 28 points in a 3-2 loss to the UQAM Citadins on Friday, the second-year middle blocker helped her squad rebound for a 3-1 win against UQTR with 10 kills, 13 points and four digs.

The Rouge et Or’s next game is at Sherbrooke against the Vert & Or on Friday.


Erik Siksna, Queen’s

Position: Outside Hitter
Hometown: Markham, Ont.
Year of eligibility: 4th
Academic program: Commerce

Erik Siksna led the Gaels to a sweep of the Nipissing Lakers over the weekend, scoring 41 points over the two games. The fourth-year outside hitter opened the series on Friday with a 23-kill, 27-point performance in a five-set win over the Lakers. On Saturday, Siksna made 12 kills and scored 14 points overall as the Gaels completed the weekend sweep in four sets.

The Gaels are back in action this weekend as they host a pair of games against the Western Mustangs.
