BRANDON, Man. – The Brandon Bobcats will look to rebound quickly to conclude the Canada West season with a win after dropping Friday’s contest 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22) to the Regina Cougars.
The Bobcats looked to be in a comfortable position after the first set, but the Cougars would not go away and took it to the hosts in the final three sets.
The first set was back and forth and a close set before fifth-year captain Rayvn Wiebe took over and ended it.
In the second Regina took a 12-7 lead thanks to tough serving and didn’t look back from there.
Errors hurt the Bobcats in both the 2nd and 3rd sets, both in the amount and the timing.
Brandon seemed to have right the ship in the 4th, but the Cougars would not be denied, battling back late before taking the set and the match.
Jessica Lerminaux was lights out for the Cougars, putting up 24 kills in the win to go with 10 digs. Cassadi Klapak also registered a double-double, finishing with 40 assists and 10 digs.
Cougars libero Sierra Paris-Kruger had a match-high 21 digs.
The Bobcats were led by Wiebe’s team-high 14 kills and 10 digs. Jamie Bain had team-highs in assists (32) and digs (11).
The win improves Regina’s record to 5-10 while the Bobcats fall to 8-7.
The two teams meet again Saturday afternoon in Brandon to conclude the Canada West conference season.
First serve is set for 5 pm.
